Emergency Services Minister Patrick Conlon announced Euan Ferguson has been appointed as the new chief executive officer of the South Australia Country Fire Service.

Ferguson has been the chief officer of the CFS since November 2001, managing operational and strategic functions for the organization's 16,500 volunteers and staff. Previously he held various senior management positions with the Victorian Country Fire Authority.

Ferguson has more than 18 of years experience in fire and emergency services. He holds a diploma and honors degree in forestry and forest management and a master's in business administration.

Ferguson also played a lead role in the premier's Bushfire Summit. He chaired eight regional bushfire forums throughout the state and then chaired the Bushfire Summit, which brought together all sections of the community to look for outcomes aimed at safeguarding South Australia from bushfires.
