"The value of a man resides in what he gives and not in what he is capable of receiving."
— Albert Einstein
There is something to be said about people who constantly serve others and go above and beyond — something incredibly inspiring — something that drives us to believe anything is possible. Wildfire magazine provides the platform to share such stories of personal and professional growth, moments of triumph and lessons learned. Communication is a very powerful tool, one that we depend upon and yet, in many respects, take for granted.
This is your magazine … your vehicle to participate in and be heard. Think of it as paying it forward for a better and safer tomorrow for everyone: the firefighters, the researchers or those living or working in the wildland interface communities. The benefits others glean from your writings may never be known by you the writer, yet they do exist. Look around - share with the rest of the community stories of those people and projects that are making a difference. After reading your copy of the magazine, give it to one of your fellow workers or someone living in a community with a high-risk for wildfire … think of it as your “prevention education” effort.
This is a good opportunity. You don't have to be a journalist — just log on to the writer guidelines: www.iawfonline.org/pdf/wildfire_author_guide.pdf. Write the story, and make a difference for someone else in our community.
