The International Association of Wildland Fire is a non-profit, professional association representing members of the global wildland fire community. The purpose of the association is to facilitate communication and provide leadership for the wildland fire community.
Here are some recent noteworthy events that helped further that goal:
10-11: IAWF President Chuck Bushey and Board Member Ann Walker attended the Wildland Fire Leadership Council meeting in Shepherdstown, W.Va., where the 10-year implementation plan of the National Wildland Fire Policy was reviewed.
23-25: The Human Dimensions of Wildland Fire conference was held in Fort Collins, Colo. Visit the conference's online photo gallery at www.iawfonline.org/gallery. The abstracts and presentations soon will be posted on the Conferences page at www.iawfonline.org/conferences.
24: The IAWF presented the Managers' Award for Relevant Research at the Seventh Symposium on Fire and Forest Meteorology held in Bar Harbour, Maine. The award went to J.D. Carlson from Oklahoma State University for a talk entitled “Field Validation of PB Piedmont.” Members of the fire management community attending the meeting selected this presentation as the most relevant to their work.
26: The IAWF's International Journal of Wildland Fire, Volume 16, Number 5 was issued. The journal is published by CSIRO and this issue contained wildland fire research from Australia, Canada, South Africa and Russia.
5: The IAWF called for applications to fill expiring terms of four positions on the board of directors. Each position is a three-year term. Visit the IAWF News section at www.iawfonline.org for more information.

April 29-May 2: The IAWF will co-sponsor of the Third International Symposium on Fire Economics, Planning and Policy: Common Problems and Approaches to be held in Carolina, Puerto Rico. Visit www.fireeconomics.com for more information.
Sept. 7-13: The International Association of Wildland Fire in association with the Ninth Biennial Scientific Conference on the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem will sponsor “The Fires of '88: Yellowstone and Beyond” to remember the events of the Yellowstone-area fires of 1988. The conference will be held in Jackson Hole, Wyo. These history-making fires will provide springboards for discussions and presentations about lessons learned, fire effects, large fire management, policy, research related to the fires, the use of fire as a management tool, and many other issues.
