AFAC 2010, "Same, same but different: Learning lessons in a changing world," Sept. 8-10, Darwin Convention Centre, Northern Territory, Australia. IAWF is proud to have been a partner since 2008 with the Australasian Fire Authorities Council and the Bushfire Cooperative Research Centre at this singular event. The Opening Keynote will be presented by former High Court Judge Michael Kirby, AC CMG, and the closing keynote will be presented by author and educator Chief Alan Brunacini (Ret.), Phoenix, Ariz., with other scheduled presentations by U.S. Fire Administrator Kevin Cochran and former New Orleans Director of Recovery Dr. Ed Blakely. Visit Booth #12 during the Trade Expo and www.afac10.org for more information.

Third Fire Behavior and Fuels Conference, "Beyond fire behavior and fuels: Learning from the past to help guide us in the future," Oct. 25-29, Spokane, Wash. Reservations are now open at the Red Lion Hotel at the Park in downtown Spokane; visit www.iawfonline.org/spokane2010 for more information. Attendees can save by registering early and by declaring their IAWF membership. Attendees may also sign up for the morning Fun Run benefitting the Wildland Firefighters Foundation. Exhibitors should sign up now to promote their fire products or wildland fire organizations.

The first two IAWF Fire Behavior and Fuels Conferences held in 2006 (Portland, Ore.) and 2007 (Destin, Fla.) presented valuable opportunities for sharing information about wildland fire globally. This third conference in the series holds the same potential.

A sub-theme of the conference will be the anniversary of the 1910 fires in the Rocky Mountains of the United States and Canada, which influenced the policy direction of wildland fire suppression in North America. It seems only fitting that, on the 100th anniversary of this historic event, we reflect on lessons learned from the past as we seek guidance on how to approach the future.

Wildland Fire Canada 2010, "Living with Fire: A new era of Canadian forest fire management," Oct. 5-7, Kitchener/Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. This inaugural conference, to be held at the Delta Kitchener-Waterloo Conference Centre in downtown Kitchener, is envisioned as a biennial event focusing on forest fire management in Canada. Visit www.wildlandfirecanada.ca for more information.

11th Wildland Fire Safety Summit, "Promoting the story of wildland fire safety from the local to the global," April 5-7, 2011, Missoula, Mont. The Safety Summit is the premier international event that provides a sustained emphasis on the critical topic of wildland fire safety. Since 1997 this has been the place for members of the international wildland fire community to focus on safety, discuss significant events and trends in safety, promote best practices in safety training and operations, reveal safety-related research findings and explore new approaches to safety.

The theme, "Promoting the story of wildland fire safety," highlights the importance of story and narrative in safety training, operations research and organizational learning. "From the local to the global" calls forth the story of safety from the entire spectrum of the global wildland fire community: from the individual, the crew, the incident, the local community and the agency to the entire hemisphere.

The opening keynote speaker will be Gordon Graham, internationally recognized expert in risk management, who will conduct training workshops in conjunction with the summit. Presented at the Hilton Garden Inn, the event will feature indoor and outdoor exhibitor space. Visit www.iawfonline.org/missoula2011 for more information.
