CSIRO recently published the newest issue (Vol. 17, No. 6) of the International Journal of Wildland Fire. This special issue is guest-edited by Dick Williams and Ross Bradstock and stemmed from a session at the recent Third International Fire Ecology and Management Conference in San Diego.

The papers presented in this special issue address the vexing issue of large fires and their consequences by examining historical fire regimes, the heterogeneity of fire regime components associated with large fires, and the impacts of large fires on ecological processes. This is done for a range of biomes, from tropical to temperate, and in northern and southern hemispheres.

In addition to an introduction by Williams and Bradstock, the issue also features:

Large Fires, Fire Effects and the Fire-Regime Concept by A. Malcolm Gill and Grant Allan.

Ecological Effects of Large Fires on U.S. Landscapes: Benefit or Catastrophe? by Robert E. Keane, James K. Agee, Peter Fulé, Jon E. Keeley, Carl Key, Stanley G. Kitchen, Richard Miller and Lisa A. Schulte.
