The IAWF's Wildland Fire Safety Award was presented to Jim Cook at the recent IAWF 11th International Wildland Fire Safety Summit. Cook's relentless commitment to firefighter safety and use of visionary training tools to improve decision-making skills has led to significant behavioral changes within the wildland fire culture, creating a safer workforce.

The award is presented to a deserving individual selected from nominees submitted by their peers from around the world. It is given to someone who has made a significant contribution to wildland firefighter safety, either directly on the fireline or indirectly through management, cultural changes or wildland fire research.
