The Vulcan Vent uses a dual mechanism to block flying embers from entering the inside of a structure and to self-close when it senses approaching heat from a wildfire, thereby prohibiting flame penetration. Vents within the system can be designed in any shape or size. According to the manufacturer, these vents offer the greatest amount of net free ventilation area of any currently on the market, reducing the number of fire vents required. The device has been accepted by the California State Fire Marshal's Office and has passed both the ember and flame test required by the Wildland Urban Interface California Building Codes.
