In an effort to continue to promote scholarly pursuits and graduate-level training within the global wildland fire community, in 2011 the IAWF will again be awarding two graduate-level scholarships to IAWF members who are Master of Science (M.Sc.) or doctoral (Ph.D.) students studying all wildland fire or wildland fire-related topics.
The IAWF encourages applications from students studying any aspect of wildland fire, from the perspective of physical, ecological or social science to less traditional subject areas. The organization is looking to recognize and support any type of research relevant to the global wildland fire community. The application period opened Feb. 15 and will close on March 31.
Scholarships will be awarded by the end of May to one M.Sc. and one Ph.D. applicant, based on their application essays. Submitted essays will be evaluated by an international panel of wildland fire science experts. Essay guidelines are available at http://www.iawfonline.org/pdf/2011_call.pdf
The IAWF has been presenting this award annually to members of the wildland fire science community since 2007.
